Truth Wins

Truth wins in the end. Abraham Lincoln said, “You can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you can’t fool all the people all the time.” The writer, W. Somerset Maugham said, “The fact that a great many people believe something is no guarantee of its truth.” People, even many people, may believe something is true though it is actually false. But eventually, lies, deception and confusion are discarded when the truth becomes apparent.

We are living in an age where deception and false information are prolific. But lies are eventually exposed because lies lead to more lies, leading to a tangled web of dishonesty. Murderers and thieves are usually caught because the inconsistencies of their stories reveal they are lying.

Truth endures. The Bible is God’s word. It was inspired by His Spirit through the minds and pens of 40 different writers over a period of 1500 years. Yet it is remarkably consistent. It tells one story about God’s creation of the world, man’s choice to rebel against God and God’s plan of restoration. It is all about Jesus and His grace. The Bible verifies itself. Prophecies, written hundreds of years before Christ, are fulfilled in Him. Because of the fulfillment of past prophecies, we can expect prophecies of the future to also prove true. Current events that make no sense otherwise make perfect sense when viewed in light of Bible prophecy.

The story is told in the Bible about the prophet, Jeremiah. Jeremiah recorded God’s words on a scroll. The scroll was then read before the king. The king didn’t like what he heard and cut off sections of the scroll as he heard them and threw them into the fire. God told Jeremiah to write another scroll. The king’s reign came to an end. The words recorded by Jeremiah have remained.

Some question the existence of God. They consider the stories of the Bible to be fairy tales. I can understand honest doubts, but an open-minded examination of the evidence for God can remove a lot of the doubts.

There have been many attempts to silence the Bible. None have succeeded. Stories abound of people who set out to discredit the Bible. Lee Stobel, Josh McDowell and William Ramsay are just a few examples of people who began extensive research, historically or archeologically, in order to prove the Bible invalid. Instead, the results of their investigations showed the Bible to be trustworthy and historically reliable. Their investigations caused them to become Christians.

People may be deceived by falsehood for a time, but in the end, truth always wins.

Truthful words stand the test of time, but lies are soon exposed. Proverbs 12:19 NLT
